ALEXANDRA - Kgololo Academy, which provides education for pupils from low-income communities, hosted its grand opening at their premises at the Methodist Church in Alexandra.
The academy opened its doors at the start of the year and is temporarily housed at the church until they find a permanent place. It has 20 children in pre-Grade R.

Waahida Tolbert-Mbatha, co-founder of the academy, was full of praise for the community of Alexandra and to those who helped the academy to be where it is today. “We are here because you decided to take a leap of faith,” she said.
“The academy opened at the beginning of the year, but we did not have a grand opening then. This time we wanted to invite the community, parents, stakeholders and board members just to celebrate what we have accomplished so far.”
According to Mbatha, their aim is to add Grade 1 next year and add a grade each year until they reach Grade 12.
“Our future plans are to grow a grade every year until we reach Grade 12. We also want to make sure that all our students are prepared to go to university.”
Mbatha said the mission of the academy is to grow and enrich academic and character skills which will prepare the children for success in university and beyond.
