Youth Advisory Desk officially opens, vows to be the best
ALEXANDRA - The Alex Youth Advisory Desk is hoping to set a trend as the best performing youth service provider among those already operating and yet to be set up by the city council.
The Alex Youth Advisory Desk is hoping to set a trend as the best performing youth service provider.
This was said by the organisation’s manager, Mush Raletjena, when announcing the official opening of the advisory desk to be held on 14 August at its offices at the Alex Multi Purpose Centre.
A youth desk official, Siphokazi Mphahlwana said the opening would expose youths to opportunities for employment, internships and training. “They will access information on leadership training and skills development, bursaries and how to develop business proposals for support,” she said. “So far, we have been able to help 60 percent of those who have approached us for advice.”
The Alex Youth Advisory Desk has been operating at the centre since October last year. “The opening should have been conducted in June 2015 but was postponed at the request of Region E which wanted to contribute financially after the current year’s financial allocation,” said Raletjena.
The delay, he said, also gave his team time to solicit partnerships for the opening event from other entities which will exhibit their youth-related services.
Exhibiting on the day will be Jozi@Work, Harambe, PC Training, Boston College, National Youth Development Agency and Provincial Department of Economic Development among others.
Raletjena said in addition to the exhibitions, the occasion will also be full of pomp and edutainment through poetry, music and recitals.
“There will also be speakers including the MMC for Community Safety, Sello Lemau, Deputy Chief Whip of Council Justice Ngalonkulu, motivational speakers like Alex soccer legend Maimane Phiri, and other youth role models,” he said.
