WATCH: Police search Alex schools

ALEXANDRA - More schools search on the cards for Alex schools until the police are satisfied with the starndard of safety in learning places.

Alexandra Cluster police officers, Metro police and the Department of Community Safety recently conducted a search operation for drugs and weapons in various Alexandra schools. The search included police from Sandton, Midrand and Sandringham.

The three schools that were searched were Alexandra High School, Kwa-Bhekilanga Secondary School and East Bank High. Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane also accompanied the officers to the schools.

The operation forms part of a Women’s Month programme on the prevention of gender-based violence and substance abuse, run by the department. It is also part of police plans to clamp down on schools in the area to ensure pupils have a safe learning environment.

The police said they noted a dramatic improvement in pupils not bringing drugs and illegal weapons to school, but promised to return to the schools for another unannounced visit until they are satisfied with the level of safety.
