Man kills another over piece of meat
ALEXANDRA - An Alex man was detained in custody pending sentencing by the Alexandra Magistrate Court for a case of murder over a piece of meat.
An Alex man was detained in custody pending sentencing by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for a case of murder over a piece of meat.
The man, Siyabonga Madlala (25) will be sentenced on 11 September after pleading guilty to the murder of Justice Mamabolo on 16th Avenue in December 2013. Madlala told the court that he committed the act in self-defence and to protect his business.
A witness to the incident told the court that on the day, at about 11.30pm, she saw Madlala, who she knew as a spaza operator, fighting with and stabbing the victim. She heard the accused shouting at the deceased to give him back the meat he had stolen from Madlala’s braai stand.
She saw the accused pick up a knife from a table and stab Mamabolo in the chest. The witness said Madlala then ran away. Police and
Emergency Management Services were called and on arrival certified the victim dead on the scene. Madlala was arrested after he returned to his spaza.
