Youths get community service after stealing from school
ALEXANDRA - Two 18 year old youths pleaded guilty at the Alexandra Magistrate Court for breaking into and stealing from a school. and were sentenced to seven years wholly suspended for five years.
Two 18-year-olds pleaded guilty in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to breaking into and stealing items from a school.
They were sentenced to seven years, wholly suspended for five years, and will instead each serve one year of community service under supervision at the Joseph Gerrard Home for the Aged in 4th Avenue. Their co-accused, a minor who is 17 years old, was referred to the State’s diversion programme.
The court heard that Ndiveni Mahada, Thabang Ramonyae and the minor broke into classrooms at Dr Knack Primary School during the June school holidays. The incident was discovered when schools reopened in July.
They stole school property to the value of R7 000. The stolen property included first aid kits, stationery, 50 boxes of tissues, floor polish, heaters, radio, mops, brooms, bath soap, toys and other teaching aids.
They had sold some of the items before their arrest.
