Women raped inside taxis
ALEXANDRA - In the past three months there have been a number of incidents reported to the Alexandra police station regarding people being raped and robbed while travelling in the local taxis (Avanza's) according to the police.
According to Alex police, there have been a number of robbery and rape incidents in Toyota Avanza taxis reported over the past three months at Alexandra Police Station.
Police are appealing to the community to report these incidents, and those who have information on any incidents, to come forward.
In the latest case, a young female residing on 4th Avenue alleged that she was raped by an unknown taxi driver. According to police, the suspect drove the vehicle to an unknown place where he raped the victim without using protection.
“The suspect threatened the victim with a knife [and told her] not to tell anyone because he will kill her. He [allegedly] raped her inside the vehicle and took her back to school,” said Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela.
