UPDATE: Capitec makes a statement on Pan Africa mall shooting
ALEXANDRA - Capitec bank has released a statement on a shooting incident which took place on 2 October near the Pan Africa Mall in Alexandra.
UPDATE: 4 October 2015, 3pm
In the statement which Capitec released on 2 October, the day of the shooting, the financial institution said they were investigating the incident which left four of their clients of the Alexandra Pan Africa branch injured.
They went on to state that the incident occurred while money was being transferred at an ATM by Cash in Transit guards.
The statement reads that one of the guard’s rifles went off accidentally.
According to Capitec the injured clients are now in a stable condition.
“We would like to thank Alexandra’s emergency services for acting quickly to ensure the safety and care of our clients,” the statement reads. “The safety of Capitec’s clients is a top priority and we are taking this incident very seriously.”

12 People have been allegedly left injured following a shooting near a shopping mall in Joburg.
Chris Botha, spokesperson for Netcare 911 told Alex News that 12 people were wounded in the shooting incident which happened at about 12pm inside the Pan Africa Mall.
He confirmed that of the 12 injured people, one of them was a four-year-old child, all of whom were taken to various hospitals around Johannesburg.
INITIAL REPORT: 2 October 2015, 1:30pm – It has been reported that 12 people have been left injured following a shooting that took place near the Pan Africa Mall.
The pan Africa Mall said the shooting incident was not in their complex but outside next to Capitec Bank and they were not sure whether it was a robbery or just an ordinary shooting.
Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the police were still trying to piece some information together and as soon more details were available Alex News will provide those.
According to reports, Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said the 12 injured included children and adults. He said the patients were being treated on the scene.
