Tears of joy as disabled KwaNobuhle resident gets new home

ALEXANDRA - A KwaNobuhle resident who was disabled soon after a stroke more than four years ago, shed tears of joy when told she would be moved away from the hostel to a better place.

A KwaNobuhle Hostel resident who was disabled after a stroke more than four years ago, shed tears of joy when told she would be moved away from the hostel to a better home.

The new home that Nomsa Majola (30) and her children will be moved to is disabled-friendly. This was announced by Gauteng Social Development MEC, Faith Mazibuko during her groundbreaking visit to three hostels in Alexandra.

Majola, who lives with her two children, her mother, two other female relatives and their children in one room, will be moving to a house in Ext 7 which was built by the then-Alexandra Renewal Project to house disabled people.

Majola would also be offered the services of a therapist to help her movement as well as her speech. “I believe with proper medical care, Nomsa can still heal and be able to walk without crutches, and also improve her speech as she is still young,” said a visibly emotional Mazibuko.

Another disabled resident of the hostel, Naniwe Dladla (41), would be built a ramp to allow her to use and move around with her wheelchair. Dladla is currently confined to her room and only goes out when she has to go to hospital. She said she was unable to access social grants for her disability as she had not been de-registered at her former employer. Mazibuko undertook to sort out the matter.
