Man awaits sentencing for brutal murder

ALEXANDRA - A man was remanded in custody by the Alex Magistrate Court for a case of murder which happened on 30 November 2014.

A man found guilty of murder has been remanded in custody pending a probation officer’s report to inform the type of sentencing, as he is allegedly the bread winner for his child.

Sanele Dlamini (28), then of 6th Avenue, will be sentenced on 2 November.

The court found Dlamini guilty of the murder of Siyanda Ndlovu at Dlamini’s home at midnight on 30 November last year. The incident was witnessed by Dlamini’s girlfriend and their child.

Two other witnesses who lived in the same yard, told the court that after being woken by cries for help from the accused’s shack, they went and opened it and found him pinning the Ndlovu’s neck against a wooden chair with his knee. They claimed he was also beating and slapping the deceased.

When asked why he was hitting him, the Dlamini responded that he had caught the Ndlovu peeping into his shack. The witnesses said when they tried but failed to pull him off, the accused got more infuriated prompting him to use a spanner to inflict severe injury to Ndlovu’s head.

The witnesses then managed to pull Dlamini off the deceased who wobbled out the shack. But due to his head injuries and blood affecting his vision, he collapsed outside next to the accused’s door.

Dlamini is said to have cleaned the deceased’s blood off himself and locked himself and his family in his shack. The witnesses said they also went to their separate shacks but could hear Ndlovu make choking sounds.

Later, they heard the Dlamini’s door open, heard two loud bangs followed by the accused’s door closing and after that, there was silence.

When they woke up in the morning, they found Ndlovu in a pool of blood with gaping wounds to the head and a bloodied spanner and concrete rocks next to him. Police and paramedics were called and certified him dead.

Dlamini is said to have disappeared and was rumoured to have gone to his rural home in Kwazulu-Natal but returned in May this year, and was living in Denver. He is said to have returned to his place of employment in Florida Hills, where he was arrested. His girlfriend and child are said to have relocated elsewhere.
