Woman allegedly murders lover, case under investigation
ALEXANDRA - The Alexandra Magistrate Court remanded a woman in custody pending further investigation before her trial for the murder of her jilted lover.
The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court recently remanded a woman in custody, pending further investigation, for the alleged murder of her partner.
Mpho Modibedi was remanded on 8 October and will reappear in court at a later date yet to be determined once investigations have been concluded.
The court heard that she allegedly stabbed her partner, Benson Mathe, in the chest with a bread knife, resulting in his death at 10pm on 26 June at the old council offices on 2nd Street, Alexandra.
It was alleged that she stabbed the victim after an altercation between the two. Witnesses claimed after Modibedi had found Mathe with another woman, she brought another man to introduce to Mathe. The woman who Mathe was suspected of having relations with is Chantel Meyers, a friend of Modibedi’s. Meyers and other witnesses claimed that Modibedi introduced the man to Mathe as her new lover.
After the introduction, she allegedly took the new partner to her residence. It is alleged that Mathe then went to her home a few hours later. After some time, Mathe and Modibedi emerged from the room quarrelling and, in the process, she is said to have stabbed him. It is unknown where Modibedi’s new partner was at the time.
The witnesses claim the suspect then hid the knife under a nearby tree before informing her sister of the incident by cellphone.
The police and Emergency Management Services were contacted and arrived. They certified the victim dead on the scene and Modibedi was subsequently arrested.
