Youngsters found guilty of raping minor
ALEXANDRA - Two young Alex man were remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrate Court awaiting trial for allegedly raping a minor.
Two young Alex men were recently found guilty of raping a minor and remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court awaiting sentencing.
The court heard that at 10.30am on 10 October, the two suspects, Tshepo Shiburi (19) and Sandile Tshabalala (22), who are known to the victim, approached her while she was sitting on the pavement outside her home on 9th Avenue with two of her friends.
They are said to have dragged her into their nearby shack where they took turns raping her without condoms. It is unknown whether or not the victim’s two friends attempted to help her at the time.
The following morning, the suspects are said to have sent a friend to her to apologise for their actions, but the victim had already told her mother who reported them to Alex police, leading to their arrest.
The Magistrate warned the accused of the serious nature of their crime and the stiff sentence they will likely face when their case is heard for sentencing on a date yet to be announced.
