A man is on the run from Alexandra police after he allegedly raped a fellow church member.

He had allegedly asked her to accompany him to his house to collect a necklace at about 4pm. Oblivious of what was to happen, the victim agreed and off they went. The 21-year-old victim said she had gone to the area around 15th Avenue to make copies of some documents when she received a phone call from the suspect who wanted to meet her.

They then met and the suspect is said to have asked the victim to go with him to his house to pick up a necklace and, as they walked, they talked all things religious, as avid Christians do.

On arrival at the home, the suspect allegedly closed the door after their entry and offered the victim something to drink, which she refused. He then offered her the necklace and is said to have asked for a hug. The victim said she refused to give the suspect a hug, and it was at this juncture that the suspect allegedly grabbed her and pulled her over to the bed where she said he raped her.

Alex police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, said the cops are on the hunt for the suspect, and anyone with information is asked to come forward and report to the Alexandra Police Station.

Meanwhile, in another case, a man has been arrested for allegedly beating up his girlfriend after accusing her of harbouring a man in their house.

The victim said her boyfriend arrived at the house at about 11pm. He then asked her if she was harbouring a man in the house and before she could answer, he allegedly beat her with a broomstick and she fell to the ground, upon which he is said to have kicked her several times.

The victim claimed she sustained bruises to her back and mouth from both the beatings and the kicking. She eventually managed to slip out of the house and reported the matter to the police, who arrested her boyfriend.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela of Alex police, said the man would appear in the Alexandra Magistrate Court on a charge of assault.
