Father’s message leads to arrest of victim’s robbers

ALEXANDRA - A phone message from a female robbery victim's dad led to the arrest of three of her alleged cell phone robbers.

A phone message from a female robbery victim’s father led to the arrest of three of her alleged cell phone robbers.

The accused were arrested by the Marlboro Metro Police on 29 October after tracking a BMW vehicle that had been reported in the proximity of several crimes. The car was spotted and stopped on the M1 Freeway near the Grayston Drive off ramp. As one of the officers approached the vehicle, one of its occupants got out and ran away while shooting at the officer, who returned fire. The fleeing occupant of the vehicle allegedly disappeared into a tunnel.

The officer returned to the squad car and found that her colleagues had arrested the vehicle’s three other occupants. The men were searched and one was found with a cell phone he claimed was his. The police used the phone to dial the last number called and it was answered by a man who reported that the cell phone belonged to his daughter who had been robbed of items including the phone.

The suspect who escaped is still at large. The Alexandra Magistrates Court remanded the three accused in custody pending further investigation before their next hearing.
