Realogile scores high in matric university qualifications
ALEXANDRA - Despite notching the last position among the Alex schools in the 2015 matric results with a pass mark of 64 percent compared to the best KwaBhekilanga Secondary School which recorded 90 percent, Realogile Secondary School may have something to cheer it up.
Despite recording the worst matric pass rate of 64 percent among Alex schools, Realogile Secondary School may have something to cheer about.
As the five schools tally their matric results, it has emerged that Realogile may have outperformed its counterparts in the number of pupils qualifying for bachelor degrees. The school obtained 55 passes in this category compared with 52 for KwaBhekilanga, 35 for Eastbank High School and 30 for Minerva Secondary School. Results for Alex High School were still being tallied.
Realogile’s principal, Matlaupe Mashitoa, was somewhat satisfied with what he called an acceptable but marginal improvement in the school’s overall results. “I am not that happy but regard the improvement as a sign of the potential we have among the staff and students to do better and achieve the optimum desired target of 100 percent and the 80 percent set by the provincial department of education,” he said.
He added that it was a work in progress. “We will collectively, as teachers, school management teams, students and the school governing body, reflect on the results, devise an improvement strategy, strengthen our systems, improve on how we conduct extra lessons and the quality of our assessments.”
Nontsikelelo Tsatsi, the principal of Minerva, the second lowest achieving school said the marginal improvement of two percent to 66 percent from 2014 wasn’t worth celebrating. “We aim to up this progressively… to 70 percent this year,” she said.
The overall comparative results for the four schools were:
KwaBhekilanga – 199 candidates, of which 52 obtained university entry qualifications, 98 diplomas, 30 higher national certificates, 18 failures and one incomplete.
Realogile – 278 candidates, 55 of whom obtained university entry qualifications, 80 diplomas, 43 higher national certificates, 98 failures and two incompletes.
Minerva – 225 candidates, of which 39 obtained university entry qualifications, 61 diplomas, 47 national higher certificates, 74 failures and four incomplete.
Eastbank High – 137 candidates, 35 of whom obtained university entry qualifications, 46 diplomas, 23 higher national certificates, 32 failures and one didn’t write the examinations.
