Adversity spurs girl to distinctions
ALEXANDRA - Adversity failed to drive a 2015 matric student to failure and instead, spurred her to achieve four distinctions which she dedicated to her sister who died on 31 December 2015 after a long illness.
Adversity failed to dampen the spirit of a 2015 matric pupil and instead it spurred her on to achieve four distinctions which she dedicated to her sister who died on 31 December last year after a long illness.
Nompumelelo (Mpumi) Nzuza (18) who attended KwaBhekilanga Secondary School lost her sister a day before the New Year’s celebrations. But as fate dictated, a cheer was brought back to her face and family when on 5 January when her matric results revealed four well-deserved distinctions and a pathway to university.
The daughter of the chairperson of the school’s governing body, Nzuza obtained distinctions in pure maths, English, life orientation and business studies. She intends enrolling at the University of Johannesburg for accounting studies. “I love numbers, want to be an accountant and UJ is the best in offering this qualification. It was hard coping with my sister’s illness in the later part of the year but determination helped me get through the challenge,” she said.
Nzuza added that the secret to any success was having a vision, determination and focus. “You need to know what you want in life and not to be distracted.” She also attributed her achievement to the teachers whose determination, she said, was second to none. Her aunt, Thabile Mosala, who was lost for words by the achievement, said the family was proud of her.
