Galxcoc and lawyers roll up their sleeves
ALEXANDRA - Nokhuthula School for the Disabled in Marlboro recently hosted interns of law firm Bowman Gilfillan and staff of Greater Alexandra Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GALXCOC) who helped the school in various ways.
Interns of law firm Bowman Gilfillan and staff of Greater Alexandra Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Galxcoc) rolled up their sleeves for some hard graft at Nokhuthula School for the Disabled in Marlboro.
The 55 interns and the law firm’s vice-chairperson and former Minister of Justice Penuel Maduna, together with Galxcoc staff, worked in the school’s garden, cooked, baked, fed and played games with the children, and helped them with their craft work.
The support is part of the two organisations’ corporate social responsibility to improve social conditions and to support small enterprises in Alexandra.
Maduna commended the school for its work which, he said, benefited children who were often ignored by society because of their physical and mental conditions. The school operates from an old factory which has many infrastructure, water and electricity problems, but will relocate later in the year to new premises currently under construction in Lyndhurst.
Earlier in the day, the two groups visited the Kwa-Bhekilanga Secondary School where they motivated Grade 12 pupils to do well in their studies.
