ALEXANDRA - Two men have been arrested in Alexandra for allegedly torching a Pikitup truck on Saturday night of the Easter weekend (26 March).

The truck was allegedly set alight as temporary workers were doing their evening rounds in the township to collect the backlog of refuse that has built up in the township’s streets.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the two men, aged 26 and 31, appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 29 March for malicious damage to property and they were remanded in custody for a bail hearing on 31 March.
The truck was torched at about 6pm and Maphakela said he did not know whether the two men were connected to the striking workers of the South African Municipal Workers Union.
