Residents weigh in on Pikitup Strike
JOBURG - Our journalists took to the streets to hear your views on the recent Pikitup strike and how it affects the community. Here's what they had to say ...
FIKILE MULOBI: It is not affecting me at all really. My complex management takes care of it.
THEMBELIHLE SIBISI: I recently moved here and the smell is disgusting. There’s litter all over our street and there are maggots in the rubbish.
KERISHA SUNDERPERSAD: I don’t think that it is hygienic. We are all unhappy with our salaries, but we don’t deny our clients our services. It is an internal matter that shouldn’t affect customers.
NAZIM NAIRI: I didn’t even realise that they were on strike. Our complex puts it all away.
VERONICA NXUMALO: Where I stay, I keep passing full bins at the gate and it is such a mess.
NOMS ESO: It can’t be good for our health to have uncollected rubbish, we deserve a better service.
ASANDA MARAQANA: In Tembisa the situation is terrible, we breathe smelly air thanks to all the garbage.
GHAZANFAR NISAR: People go home expecting to live in a clean space, let’s hope this strike will end so they will collect bins again.
DEBBIE DEBRATA: The smell is so horrible. I am glad that in some areas of Midrand the bins are being emptied, but I’m not sure if it is a private company or Pikitup.
