Gang nabbed for possession of stolen firearm and vehicle
ALEXANDRA - Read up on how a gang was arrested for a stolen motor vehicle and firearm.
Four men were remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court pending further investigation for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle and an illegal firearm.
They were arrested on 3 March after a tip-off by police the public. They were sighted at about 8am allegedly changing the number plates of a bakkie and were also armed.
Police were called to the scene by a community member and stopped the vehicle as it was pulling away. Three occupants complied with the police’s order to get out of the vehicle, but the driver remained inside with his right arm held up through the window and holding a gun.
Police shot the firearm out of his hand and he sustained injuries before he and the three passengers were arrested.
The driver was taken to hospital for treatment under police guard. The firearm was checked and found to be reported stolen in Esikhawini, KwaZulu-Natal in 2011. The vehicle was checked and also found to be reported stolen in KwaZulu-Natal.
The passengers pleaded innocence while the driver claimed that the gun was owned by someone else who ran away from the scene.
