SHOCKING: Uncle attempts to rape 12 and 18 year old nieces
ALEXANDRA – Uncle attempts to rape 12- and 18-year-old nieces before nakedly fleeing into darkness.
An Alex man is awaiting sentencing by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court after he pleaded guilty to attempted rape and indecent assault.
On 7 March, The accused, Godfrey Ratombo of 4th Avenue, pleaded guilty to the crimes committed against his 12- and 18-year-old nieces at their home, where he also lived.
The court heard that at about 11pm on the day, the 43-year-old entered the niece’s room and switched on the light. When the 18-year-old demanded to know what he wanted, Ratombo swore at her before he went back to his room and she switched off the light.
Moments later, he returned to her room and switched on the light again. The niece testified that he was naked and wearing a condom and was seemingly masturbating. He then pulled the blankets off the 12-year-old.
This prompted the 18-year-old to scream and tell the little girl to run to her mother’s room, which she did. Ratombo then grabbed the 18-year-old by the throat and threatened her. The children’s mother was awakened by the commotion and went to her children’s room where she confronted the man.
Ratombo then escaped through the window, naked.
The incident was reported to Alex police. The police officers managed to arrest Ratombo on 24 March after receiving a tip-off that he was sleeping in a disused vehicle in the township.
Alex police officers went to the location but did not find him. After searching the area, Ratombo was spotted near Pan Africa Mall, where he was arrested.
