Knife fight turns bloody for group of friends

ALEXANDRA - Friends in knife war referred for mediation by the court.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court has referred a case of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm, involving four friends who reside in different rooms in the same yard on 8th Avenue, for mediation.

The incident occurred midday on 5 March at the yard when three of the men allegedly ganged up on the fourth and stabbed him six times resulting in his hospitalisation.

Despite the wounds, the man allegedly fought back, inflicting wounds on the three suspects, who also required treatment.

The court heard that the group was drinking alcohol and got into an argument which resulted in a fist fight between two of the men. Two other men join the one man and allegedly ganged up on the fourth.

The lone opponent was said to have fought back inflicting injuries on the three before other people separated them. All four men ended up in hospital separately for treatment, after which the lone opponent reported the incident, resulting in the arrest of the three for attempted murder.

The trio then laid counter-charges resulting in the opponent also being arrested. This after a petition by other residents who complained that the opponent is a nuisance as he resorted to fights whenever involved in an argument.

Evidence of his conduct presented in court was supported by a letter from the local councillor, Ambi Maseko, which confirmed the accusation, further stating that the residents at the place felt threatened whenever the victim was around and that they no longer wanted to live near him. The opponent was found to be out on bail for a case of violence committed in 2014.

The case continues.
