Men charged with defrauding woman in housing deal
ALEXANDRA - Men facing charge of defrauding a woman in R1-million housing deal.
Three men have appeared at the Alex Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a woman in a housing transfer deal in June last year.
The woman intended buying a R1.4-million property in the northern suburbs through an estate agency. Evidence presented was that after getting her contact details fraudulently, the accused contacted her pretending to be the agency’s representatives. They allegedly persuaded her to deposit the payment into a different account to the one she was given by the agency.
When the woman followed up on her payment with the agency, they said they had no record of it. When the money was traced, half of the amount had been withdrawn from a bank in Mpumalanga and the balance had been transferred and withdrawn from two other accounts in the same province.
