SA Post Office boss cleans up in Alex

ALEXANDRA – South African Post Office chief executive officer joins his colleagues to clean up post office in Alex.

The South African Post Office chief executive officer, Mark Barnes, joined his fellow employees in Alexandra in cleaning and fixing up two post office branches in the township.

Barnes spent time with employees behind the counter and on delivery rounds, using the opportunity to gain insight into the day-to-day issues which employees face at grassroots level.

He also had the opportunity to interact with customers on-site and pledged his team’s commitment to ensuring that they receive an improved customer experience whenever they visit the post office.

His visit happened at the time when the South African Post Office is close to securing some capital injection from the major banks so as to fully implement its turnaround plans.

Barnes explained that he was not the first at the post office to take ownership of the conditions at postal outlets, with employees at various post offices nationally having undertaken continuous work to maintain offices and ensure that essentials are fully replenished.

“In my few encounters with my colleagues at various levels, I have learnt of the amazing levels of their commitment to the future of the South African Post Office. In keeping operations afloat during bad times, they have done some innovative scheduled cleaning rosters in addition to their daily responsibilities and even recycling used paper to print customers’ invoices,” Barnes said.

Barnes said he was proud to be associated with the calibre of his colleagues, which he described as ‘much-needed on the current path to transform the South African Post Office into a 21st-century service provider’.

“The journey has started with the market-based eRegistered Mail launched last week, which has an inbuilt end-to-end audit trail of the parcels to cater for speed, reliability, security and convenience,” he said.

“Today’s visit enabled an opportunity to socialise with our colleagues at local level in an attempt to get in touch with their daily operations, while at the same time appreciating the difficult challenges they have to contend with in their pursuit of the dream of the SA Post Office.”

The post office said that similar initiatives were planned nationally in line with a drive of the company’s new corporate values.
