Improved facilities for Greenstone’s adopted schools
JOBURG – Schools win big with their artwork at the opening of a Cashbuild store at the Greenstone Mall.
Two schools from Alexandra were among six others in the Greenstone Mall area set to upgrade their school grounds and facilities from their winnings in the recent Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition.
The Alex schools adopted by the Greenstone Mall are Ikage and Zenzeleni primary schools, which joined Laerskool M W de Wet, Noble, Lyndhurst, Glenhazel, Edenglen and Rembrandt Park primary schools in the mall area.
Noble, Zenzeleni and Ikage primary schools were just three of the eight schools that each received Cashbuild building material vouchers to the value of R15 000 at the Cashbuild Greenstone store opening ceremony.
Zenzeleni’s deputy principal, Vusi Mashaba, described their winnings as great news and said Cashbuild had just made their year. He said they would like to build an activity centre where their pupils will be able to hold assembly, play sport as well as extramural activities.
Phelelani Msweli, principal of Ikage Primary School, said they were so excited that words couldn’t describe their feelings. He said they would like to fence the school and fix the school gate. “We want to ensure that our school gate is able to close properly by adding more poles, and get a stronger fence.”
Noble Primary School’s head of department, Elbie Fourie, was happy that the school could now buy badly-needed equipment to enable it to carry out its own repairs. While thanking Cashbuild, she said they needed everything from brooms to windows and this prize was much appreciated.
A total of R120 000 in vouchers were presented to all the eight schools.
Each school submitted their best artwork for the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition, all of which will be displayed at the Cashbuild store for the next six years. The artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. The winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates.
The Manager’s Choice Award was also presented to the overall winner, Nkahle Khumalo from Rembrandt Park Primary School, and Khumalo received a stationery pack and a glass trophy.
