Killer caught, accomplice still on the run
ALEXANDRA - Man awaits murder and attempted murder trial.
A man was remanded in custody by Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for the alleged murder and attempted murder of two victims of Alexandra Ext 7.
The suspect’s accomplice is still at large and is wanted by Alex police. The two accused allegedly attacked the victims at 2am on 18 May as they crossed the pedestrian bridge from Setswetla Informal Settlement to Ext 7.
The accused and his accomplice are said to have sprung from the bushes near the bridge, pointed a firearm at the victims and demanded money.
In the heat of the moment, the victims fled in different directions and the accused allegedly shot twice hitting one of the victim’s in the hand.
Three more shots were apparently fired at his colleague who subsequently died from his gunshot wounds.
The suspects then fled the scene.
The injured victim managed to call his sister who took him to Edenvale Hospital where after treatment he was discharged. His colleague was declared dead on the scene and was taken to the government mortuary.
The victim managed to describe his assailants to the police resulting in the accused’s arrest.
The accused will appear in court after further investigation is completed. The murder weapon was not found.
