Thieving security guard gets two-year sentence
ALEXANDRA - Security guard gets two-year sentence for cellphone theft.
A former security guard who stole cellphones that he was meant to be guarding was sentenced by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to two years’ imprisonment or an R8 000 fine with an additional eight-year sentence wholly suspended for five years.
The accused, Kenneth Baloyi, was convicted for the theft of 45 phones of various makes last year. The crime was discovered after company officials noticed that some boxes containing the phones had been tampered with. The boxes’ contents were counted resulting in the discovery of the missing phones.
Baloyi was arrested after he was captured on surveillance footage opening the boxes and taking the phones.
