ANC activists in campaign overdrive

ALEXANDRA – ANC members take to the streets in voting drive.

With weeks left before the municipal elections, political party activists, volunteers and their leaders can be seen bracing the winter cold with the hope to get the laggards on their side when making that all important cross on 3 August.

Alex has its fair share of these groups traversing the township on door-to-door campaigns, distributing pamphlets, cajoling the young and elderly with promises of a better life if they vote for their party.

The most prominent party to be seen in the township seems to be the DA’s blue brigade and the ANC’s unmistakable sea of yellow, green, black and gold with the EFF’s red berets making occasional appearances.

In one of their jaunts, ANC activists Dikeledi Galedzane and Oupa Ndabambi said their party was conducting a fully-fledged regional and provincially

co-ordinated door-to-door campaign under the theme, maihlome (be ready).

Ndabambi said groups of 10 to 15 volunteers were walking the streets daily and listening to voters’ concerns about personal, household and community challenges such as shack fires and housing. He said they encouraged everyone to vote and reminded those registered for special voting to not forget their voting dates.
