UPDATE: Food for fire victims
ALEXANDRA – Shoprite store in the Alex Plaza Shopping Centre served soup, food hampers and blankets to the victims of a recent shack fire in the township as part of its Mandela Day campaign.
The Shoprite store at Alex Plaza shopping centre sprang to the assistance of the recent shack fire victims residing on the corner of 8th Avenue and Vincent Tshabalala Road as part of its Mandela Day campaign.
The fire in Alex caused a devastating effect on the lives of the residents as it destroyed all their belongings, leaving several families without food and shelter, and with only the clothes they had on their backs at the time of the fire.
“Shoprite’s ongoing commitment to giving back to the local communities in which it operates prompted the retailer to assist and dispatch the Shoprite Mobile Soup Truck which served hot cups of soup to the displaced residents and also provided the families with food hampers and blankets,” said the group’s public relations manager, Sabrina Gramoney.
“The Shoprite Group pledged to continue with its hunger relief efforts during the winter season through its #ActForChange initiative. Shoprite also works closely with Provincial Disaster Management Centres to identify areas in distress,” she added.
