Transporter charged with theft

ALEXANDRA – Transporter charged with theft from contractor.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court has postponed a case of alleged theft to 8 September.

A 31-year-old man is accused of stealing panel beating and engineering equipment from a contractor after being hired to transport the equipment to a new location in Midrand.

The accused, who is currently out on bail, was said to have sold the equipment, which was worth R108 000, for R5 000.

It was said that after several days, the contractor found the items missing at the new location and the accused couldn’t be found for about two months until his mother allegedly notified the police of his whereabouts leading to his arrest.

When asked about the items, the accused claimed they were scrap which he sold and kept the money, claiming that the contractor owed him an undisclosed amount of money for work he had previously done.

The case continues.
