Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association’s annual U15 Spring Tournament is headed for the final stages on 9 October at the No 3 Square Grounds.
Sponsored by the Alex Masters Soccer League, the tournament entered the quarterfinal stage last weekend with Real Madrid up against Red Roses; Boys of Hope taking on Alex Young Lions; LRC against United Stars; and Malandela Mighty Heroes versus Super Stars.
Secretary general of the association, Mafika Morajane, expressed the association’s gratitude to the league for its continued sponsorship of the tournament.
“We hope our relationship can grow from strength to strength in the interest of developing Alex football and keeping our kids active and off the streets and away from mischief,” Morajane said.
He added that the cash-strapped association could not afford to host the Ntate Molepo Tournament this year, which was launched last year in honour of a man who contributed immensely to the development of Alex football.
“It’s sad that we could not find a sponsor for this prestigious tournament that is steeped in the rich history of the association and honours a man who gave all his life to the service of football in our township.
“We appeal to potential partners for this tournament to come forward and work with us for the sake of our children,” Morajane added.
