JOBURG – What is it about South African restaurants that make us happy?
Ocean Basket, Mugg & Bean, Wimpy and Spur are the four highest ranked homegrown restaurants for consumers.
According to a study produced by the South African Consumer Satisfaction Index, Ocean Basket’s customers are the most satisfied, with a score of 78.6 in the rankings; followed by Wimpy at 77.8. Both of these restaurants rated on par with the industry average of 77.6 out of 100. Spur and Mugg & Bean received below average scores of 77.0 and 75.7 respectively.

Just under 1 500 randomly selected customers of Mugg & Bean, Ocean Basket, Spur, Wimpy and other local restaurant brands were surveyed by research company, Consulta. The research is conducted independently without sponsorship from any of the brands.

“South African restaurant-goers have really high expectations from the franchise restaurants they visit. Excellent value for money, top quality food, quick service and a great overall experience are usually on the menu of demands,” said Professor Adré Schreuder, chief executive of Consulta.
The study also revealed that South African customers more often visit restaurants that source locally produced ingredients as well as brands which offer nutritional meals.
