Important Alpoa members-only meeting

ALEXANDRA – Alpoa is to hold a meeting to brief members on the latest developments in the fight for the restoration of land and property rights in the township.

The Alexandra Land and Property Owners Association (Alpoa) will hold a members-only meeting on 19 November to address various issues pertaining to the restoration of land and property rights in the township.

The meeting will be held at the Roman Catholic Church Hall starting at 9am and is expected to last until 12pm, where the leaders of the organisation, which has been struggling for property rights for many years, will address members on the latest development in the land and property restoration front, including issues plaguing the delivery of the title deeds.

One of the hot potatoes to be discussed at the meeting will be the issue of tenants who still occupy many of the members’ properties, some of whom have laid claims on the properties too. The meeting will also include in its deliberations the issue of the restoration of title deeds and other options that have been put on the table by the government.

Members are urged to come in their numbers to hear first-hand the latest developments in their quest for the restoration of their land and properties, which they bought from farmer, Herbert Papenfus as early as 1912 but were later usurped by the apartheid regime in the 1970s.

The apartheid regime wanted to make way for the development of hostel-only accommodation for migrant labourers, and partly to enforce its policy of forbidding Africans buying and owning properties in urban areas which were reserved for whites only.
