Murder fugitive rearrested

ALEX - Alleged police murderer, multiple crime suspect escapee rearrested, to appear in Tembisa and Alex courts.

A man who allegedly shot dead a police officer on 12 October as he fled from the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court cells where he was awaiting trial for nine hijacking cases in Tembisa, Rabie Ridge and Kagiso in 2012, was rearrested.

Joshua Bomba Shongwane was nabbed by the police’s provincial task team at a house in Eersterust, Pretoria on 31 October. The suspect also escaped from custody last year while he was awaiting trial for the same crimes.

Shongwane also has crimes pending at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for attempted murder of police officers, illegal possession of restricted and other firearms and ammunition, committed in the Midrand area last year.

In Shongwane’s latest escape, Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the suspect allegedly locked three police officers in his cell after holding them at gunpoint before he fled, allegedly shooting dead a fourth officer on his way out.

He was due to appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 28 October for the Midrand crimes committed under the alias Ntsikelelo Joshua Moliki.
