Man allegedly whips girlfriend over taxi fare
ALEXANDRA – Woman allegedly assaulted after asking for taxi fare.
Alex police officers arrested a suspect for allegedly causing his girlfriend grievous bodily harm.
According to the spokesperson for Alex Police Station, Captain Allie Kodisang, the incident occurred at night on 27 November at the suspect’s Ext 7 residence.
Kodisang said the victim went to the suspect’s residence in the early evening to collect clothing for her children. After collecting clothes, the victim asked for money from the suspect for taxi fare. The man said he didn’t have any money and instead invited her to sleep over.

She agreed and as they were lying in bed, he asked her why she had asked for money. The suspect then allegedly took a sjambok and whipped her all over her body. She sustained serious injuries to her back and also a broken finger.
An investigation will determine if and when the suspect will appear in court.
