Police make several arrests

Alex police officers are investigating a range of crimes committed by suspects between 9 and 15 January.

Spokesperson for Alex Police Station, Lieutenant Allie Kodisang said these included:

• 3 for rape
• 6 for theft of motor vehicles
• 1 for theft from a motor vehicle
• 1 for motor vehicle hijacking
• 4 for house robberies
• 1 for business robbery
• 5 for robberies with firearms
• 1 for robbery using another type of weapon
• 3 for common robbery
• 6 for general theft
• 7 for malicious damage to property
• 1 for fraud
• 2 for assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm
• 16 for common assaults.

Arrests were made for the following:

• 1 for murder
• 1 for attempted murder
• 4 for armed robbery
• 4 for attempted robberies with firearms
• 6 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
• 5 for common assault
• 4 for shoplifting
• 1 for business burglary
• 1 for house robbery
• 1 for malicious damage to property
• 3 for housebreaking and theft
• 1 for theft under false pretense
• 2 for theft
• 1 for possession of an unlicensed firearm
• 2 for possession of unlicensed live ammunition and stolen property
• 2 for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle
• 1 for possession of an illegal substance
• 8 for drunken driving
• 1 for reckless and negligent driving
• 3 for illegal gambling
• 3 for contempt of court.
