Wynberg murder accused receives R2 000 bail
ALEXANDRA – Accused claims he shot at people fighting outside a tavern
The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court granted bail of R2 000 to a 50-year-old man for the alleged murder of another man.
The accused, a shop owner near the crime scene, allegedly shot and killed the victim outside a tavern on the corner of 1st Street, Wynberg and 1st Avenue, Alexandra in the early hours of 4 January.
The accused claimed he shot at a group of patrons to stop them making a noise while they were allegedly involved in a fight and were breaking bottles of alcohol.
After the shooting, the group scattered and when the accused stopped shooting, the victim was seen lying on the ground.
The victim was declared dead at the scene by emergency management services’ personnel.
Police officers were called to the scene and the man was arrested.
The case is pending further investigation.
