‘Friend’ allegedly steals loaned bakkie

ALEXANDRA – Man allegedly disappears with a bakkie he borrowed from a friend.

Alexandra police are investigating the theft of a bakkie by the owner’s so-called friend.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Allie Kodisang said the suspect borrowed the vehicle – a Toyota bakkie worth R170 000 – from the victim who lives in 17th Avenue on 23 February. It is alleged that he wanted to use the vehicle to transport some goods to Mpumalanga. He allegedly promised to return it the same day but didn’t.

The suspect called later in the day and told the victim that, due to bad weather, he would return the following day. The victim said the suspect called again the following morning and told him that he was on his way back.

When he didn’t arrive, the victim called several times for many days but the suspect’s phone was on voicemail. The victim reported the vehicle as stolen to the police.
