New Alex Mall is officially open for business
JOBURG – The new Alex Mall hits the ground running.
As expected, the mall was packed with local residents who were eager and very excited to finally see what was in store for them, when the mall opened its doors for the first time on 30 March. By 7am , the parking lot was almost full and by 9am, one was lucky to find an empty parking spot.

There were many shops in the mall that were running huge discounts in the hope of attracting customers for the first time. Shoprite was one of the popular stops for the more mature shoppers, while the younger potential customers flocked to shops such as Studio88, Sportscene, and Mr Price.
Other than the excitement of the opening of the mall, there were those who were really grateful for the job opportunities that have been created at the shopping centre. Shoprite stated that the majority of their staff was made up of Alex residents. There were also many people walking into stores seeking employment all morning.

Security at the mall was tight, with Metro police officers present in the mall, as well as officers patrolling the mall’s perimeter on foot and even horseback.
