Talented Alexandra cricket player has made the Gauteng Cricket Board proud

JOBURG – Gauteng Cricket Board looks forward to the day when talented Alex cricketer, Tshepo Bopape makes it to the Proteas side.

The Gauteng Cricket Board is proud of the progress being made by talented Alex cricketer, Tshepo Bopape.

He is already being touted as the next Kagiso Rabada when he finally bursts onto the senior cricket scene.

Speaking in an interview with Alex News, the board’s amateur cricket manager Colin Gxowa said they were delighted that their huge investment in amateur cricket in disadvantaged areas was bearing fruit. The board runs various cricket development programmes, not only with the Alexandra Cricket Club but with many other clubs in the province to tap into the talent and nurture it for the future.

Bopape is in matric at Jeppe Boys High School and captains the cricket first team. “We secured a full bursary for him to go study at the school, which is one of the top cricketing schools in Johannesburg, and he has been there for the past four or so years,” Gxowa said.

“The full bursary allows him to live at the school and covers all his educational requirements, including the provision of meals.”

Bopape has played for the U15 Gauteng provincial team since 2013 and has graduated to the U19 provincial side. He could soon be selected for the Gauteng Strikers team.

Gxowa said they hoped to secure another bursary for Bopape to do tertiary studies at either the University of Johannesburg or Wits.

“The reason we want him to study is the simple fact that not all boys make it in cricket. If he does not ultimately make the cut to the senior Proteas team, he can always fall back on his educational career,” Gxowa said.

“We’re proud of the talent of Bopape and the progress he is making in the cricketing arena and we look forward to him one day being part and parcel of the Proteas team.”
