20-year-old Alex man to appear in court after attempting to hijack a vehicle

ALEXANDRA – Failed hijacking lands Alex youth in trouble with the law.

 

An Alex youth awaiting trial for an alleged failed hijacking attempt was remanded in custody by Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

The 20-year-old suspect attempted to hijack a Toyota Yaris at about 7.30pm on 31 March from a female motorist at the Old Pretoria Road intersection in Marlboro.

The motorist stopped at a traffic light and allegedly heard a crashing sound as one of the vehicle’s back windows was broken. She then saw the suspect, who was holding a brick, climbing through the window.

The suspect went for the keys and switched off the ignition while shouting at the shocked victim who got out of the vehicle.

He tried but failed repeatedly to restart the vehicle as the victim tried to flag other motorists down for help.

Fortunately, a police vehicle arrived on the scene and the suspect was arrested.
