Suspect of gruesome Midrand murder remanded in custody
ALEXANDRA – Midrand murder suspect remanded in custody, manhunt continues for his accomplices.
A murder suspect from Alex was remanded in custody by the Alex Magistrates’ Court on 5 May pending further investigation.
The man was arrested after fingerprint testing allegedly linked him to the murder of a Midrand woman at her home on 24 May last year. His hearing was postponed to 31 May.
Police are searching for four accomplices who are still at large.
The suspect, who said he wanted to plead guilty, can not be named as it might jeopardise the police investigation and the search for his accomplices.
The suspects allegedly forced their entry into the Midrand home where they allegedly shot and killed the victim and also, allegedly manhandled her male companion.
They first banged on the door when the victims were watching television. The male victim went to check and was confronted by the suspects who were already inside the house. He managed to run upstairs and locked himself in a room. When the woman followed she was shot in the chest. The suspects then followed the male victim and broke the door to the room he was in and pulled him downstairs. They tied him up and covered his face with a towel as they ransacked the place. After they left, the survivor called the neighbours who tried to transport the injured victim to a hospital but she was certified dead on the scene by paramedics who had arrived.
No items were reported as stolen.
