Golf day at Bryanston Country Club brings a ray of hope to Alex

JOBURG – Rays of Hope hosts a golf day at Bryanston Country Club as part of its fundraising for its Alex charity projects.

Rays of Hope’s Annual Golf Day, which is held to raise funds for the organisation in Alexandra, took place on 12 May at Bryanston Country Club.

In partnership with Bytes Managed Solutions, the event helped ensure that the valuable work done by Rays of Hope in Alexandra continues to thrive.

A total of 27 four-balls took part in the competition.

Rays of Hope is a community-based non-profit organisation which operates solely in Alexandra and works through a series of projects under the broad headings of orphaned and vulnerable children as well as education and work readiness.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Sihle Mooi, Rays of Hope’s executive director, congratulated everyone involved in the day. “This was a fine effort by all concerned. In particular, I would like to thank Bytes Managed Solutions for their support, in terms of finance, logistical support and state-of-the-art technology. They are a valuable partner of ours.”

Rays of Hope has been operating in Alex for 26 years. “Our mission is to partner with Alex for lasting change. We do not believe in quick fixes. We go the distance with the people.

“We believe that in successfully bridging the gap between Sandton and Alex we are creating a model for the rest of South Africa to follow,” Mooi said.

Fourie van der Merwe, managing director of Bytes Managed Solutions, said they had partnered with the project based on the company’s belief that ‘it is our social responsibility to uplift those in need around us’.

He said the partnership enables Rays of Hope to continue to do the great work they are currently doing in Alex by empowering and upskilling young people.

“At Bytes Managed Solutions we have an internship programme where we take in 50 young, previously disadvantaged learners, every two years, from all walks of life, and introduce them into our organisation and its operations.

“This provides them with an opportunity to gain valuable skills, experience and employment. This golf day is also an occasion for us to showcase some of our innovative technology solutions,” Van der Merwe said.

Mooi urged those interested in seeing the work they do in Alex firsthand to join their guided tours of the township on Saturdays by visiting their website for more details.
