Gardener sentenced for theft of tools.
ALEXANDRA - Gardener gets suspended sentence for theft of tools.
A man who claimed to be a gardener was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment suspended for five years by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.
The accused Jacob Rafapa (27) of Alex admitted to the offence of stealing two garden spades from an engineering company in Wynberg. In mitigation, he said he needed the tools to further his trade. He was arrested with the tools by security guards in the early morning of 17 April as he scaled a security wall of the company.
The company manager found a storeroom with other tools and engineering equipment broken into but nothing else was missing except for the spades.
