Stolen phone helps nab house robber
ALEXANDRA - Kyalami victim's stolen phone leads police to suspects' arrests..
Three suspects who allegedly robbed a Kyalami couple had their case postponed on 30 May by the Alex Magistrates’ Court pending further investigation. A fourth suspect is wanted.
The incident occurred at 8pm on 22 March this year. The suspects, allegedly armed with knives, cut the fence to get into the home and entered the house through an unlocked door. They assaulted the victims who were watching TV and one of them wrestled with the male victim for his laptop but failed to take it. The suspect then took the couple’s iPhone and left.
The phone, which was traced and found to be in the Marlboro area, was recovered from one of the suspects the following day by a police officer on patrol.
The officer was driving behind two men and became suspicious when they ran away. He stopped the vehicle, chased them on foot and caught the suspect who was found to be in possession of the phone, leading to his arrest.
The other man escaped. The suspect led the police to a Diepsloot house where two of his accomplices were found and also arrested.
