Fingerprints aid in arrest
ALEXANDRA – A man's fingerprints lead to his theft admission
Fingerprint identification played a major role in the conviction of a 23-year-old Alex man for housebreaking and theft, in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, Thabang Mjokweni was sentenced to three years imprisonment after his fingerprints were found on a fan at a 17th Avenue home.
The court heard that he broke into the house at midday on 11 July last year when the owners were absent. Several items, including a television, radio speakers, an amplifier, blanket and alcohol were stolen.
He was arrested on 2 May and remanded in custody until 30 May when he pleaded guilty and was sentenced.
None of the stolen items were recovered.
