Foreign national on murder charge
ALEXANDRA – Man stabs compatriot to death over debt.
A foreign national residing in Setswetla informal settlement was remanded in custody by the Alex Magistrates’ Court for the alleged murder of his compatriot.
He will reappear in court on 10 August after a home language interpreter has been secured.
The accused was arrested on 29 March at his home on the night of the incident. Alex police found a broken knife at the scene. The victim was certified dead with a stab wound to the chest at the Alex Clinic.
Prior to the stabbing, a witness alleged that they overheard the suspect talking to the deceased and his brother about returning money they owed him and the brothers committing to return it the following day. The suspect allegedly asked the brother to go outside while he remained with the victim.
Minutes later, the victim was heard screaming that he had been stabbed. Paramedics called to the scene took him to the Alex Clinic where he was certified dead soon after arrival.
