Security guards catch Sandton robbers redhanded
ALEXANDRA – Alex Magistrates' Court remands Sandton robbers in custody pending further investigation.
Three men who were arrested in connection with a robbery at a Sandton home on 3 July were remanded in custody by the Alex Magistrates’ Court pending further investigation.
The armed suspects, who wore gloves and covered their faces with bandanas, followed the victim’s vehicle to his home. When he closed the remote controlled gate, one of the suspects blocked it with his vehicle.
When two of the suspects approached the victim, he pressed his panic button. They pointed firearms at him and asked him if there were people in the house. The third suspect joined them and one of them took the victim’s vehicle keys from the ignition. They forced him into the house and demanded him to show them the jewellery safe.

After the victim told them there was no jewellery in the house, they forced him to the bedroom and ordered him to lie on a bed while they ransacked cupboards and took an assortment of items. The suspects suddenly heard noises outside which forced them to run out of the house where they were confronted by security guards at the gate. When the suspects realised that their vehicle was gone, two of them scaled a wall but were soon arrested on the street. The third suspect was arrested on the property after failing to scale the wall.
A bag containing the victim’s wrist watch, an undisclosed amount of cash, medicines, a laptop and cables was recovered on the scene. The items were returned to the victim.
