Court denies suspected cable thief bail

ALEXANDRA – Suspected cable thief blames his money woes.

A 42-year-old man appeared in the Alex Magistrates’ Court on 14 September on a charge of cable theft.

Doctor Monama (42) was charged with the theft after a technician found him allegedly cutting a wire in a building in Midrand on 26 August.

The technician had fixed leaking pipes in the building the previous day. When the technician asked him why he was there, Monama allegedly told the technician that he was hired from the street by someone who said they would pay him for the wire. The police were informed and Monama was arrested after he had allegedly caused R150 000 worth of damage.

Magistrate Renier Boshoff denied Monama bail and postponed the case to 28 September.
