ALEXANDRA – Assaults, robberies and drugs dominate Alex's weekly crime stats.
Alex police arrested 61 suspects including two for rape and attended to 28 priority crimes including two for rape and one for murder. They also reported 57 other crimes in the week ending 8 October.
Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said the arrests were:
- 2 for rape
- 16 for common assault
- 13 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
- 4 for shoplifting
- 2 for general theft
- 2 for fraud
- 2 for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle
- 2 for malicious damage to property
- 1 for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- 13 for drug possession, use and dealing
- 4 for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
Reported priority crimes were:
- 1 murder
- 2 rape
- 6 theft from motor vehicle
- 11 robbery with firearm
- 4 residential burglary
- 2 house robbery
- 2 business burglary.
Other reported crimes were:
- 1 robbery
- 4 common robbery
- 4 theft from motor vehicle
- 4 malicious damage to property
- 7 general theft
- 1 fraud
- 10 assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
- 26 common assault.
