Rape case mediated
ALEXANDRA – Families mediate in a rape case.
A case of alleged housebreaking and attempted rape has been withdrawn from the Alex Magistrates’ Court following a mediated agreement between the perpetrator and the victims’ families.
The case involved an 18-year-old boy who allegedly attempted to rape a 19-year-old girl at her East Bank home in the early hours of 5 November.
It is said that after the suspect forced himself into the room where the victim was sleeping with a boyfriend, she woke up and saw him standing next to them with only a T-shirt on and holding a knife.
When asked about his mission, the suspect allegedly told them that he wanted her and no one would stop him.
As he tried to climb onto the bed, the boyfriend tackled him but was pressed down and beaten on both hands by the suspect. The commotion attracted neighbours who intervened and called the suspect’s mother after recognising him. The police then arrived and arrested him.
The case, heard on 8 November, was later withdrawn for a mediated resolution.
